Support authentication and verification with time-sensitive messages.

OTP SMS illustration

Plan the details before you send.

Message purpose, destination, audience permissions, templates and technical requirements all influence the right SMS setup.

🌍

Focused OTP routes

Use an authentication-oriented setup designed around short-lived verification messages.

API integration

Generate the code in your system, submit the approved message and validate it securely in your application.

Delivery monitoring

Track available delivery outcomes and define retry or alternate-channel logic for unsuccessful attempts.

Template and expiry planning

Keep messages concise, identify the purpose of the code and use an expiry window appropriate to the risk.

Before launch

Share the destination, expected monthly volume, peak throughput, language, sender requirement and whether messages will be uploaded or triggered through an API.

During delivery

Monitor available submission and delivery outcomes. Invalid numbers, handset availability, carrier filtering, registration issues and destination rules can affect results.

After the campaign

Review audience quality, timing, content length, links and response signals. Use those findings to improve the next campaign or design a multi-channel follow-up.

Detailed planning guide

Design OTP delivery as one part of a secure verification flow.

Generate and validate securely

The application should generate, store and validate the code using appropriate security controls. The SMS platform transports the message but should not become the sole source of verification truth.

Set expiry and retry limits

Choose a short validity period suited to the risk, limit incorrect attempts and prevent repeated resend requests from creating abuse or unnecessary message volume.

Prepare fallback behaviour

Define what the user sees when delivery is delayed or unsuccessful. A resend, alternate channel or support path should avoid exposing whether a sensitive account exists.

Technical setup and measurement.

Preparation: Keep the message concise, name the intended action, show the validity period where appropriate and warn the user not to share the code. Avoid including unnecessary personal or account information. API integration should cover secure authentication, templates, variables, request logging and delivery callbacks without logging the code in unsafe places.

Reporting: Measure submission, delivery, resend frequency, verification completion, expiry and failure patterns separately. A delivered OTP does not mean the user completed verification. Monitor unusual request volume, repeated destinations and application-level abuse signals.
